Tie

Hopefully, posting this now, will show how much I will have improved in 12 months time. If I don't, I'm gonna give up. You can probably tell I'm not over-the-moon with this short. I had about 4 hours to shoot, compile and edit in time for the deadline, so I'm sticking to that as a reason why it's not very good.

Animateclay.com June challenge entry. Theme was 'Tie'.

  2. I just watched your short this morning. It was very entertaining! I like the use of forced perspective. I know exactly how it feels to make a short right before the deadline -- very stressful. Probably not the healthiest thing to do either lol It's still great experience though.

  3. Vince* Thank you, that's a lot of love! XD It was a close challenge, I think I edged it by a couple votes :D

Matt* Thanks. The forced perspective was a last minute thing. I needed something to stop it looking like just a test. It looks a bit odd with a giant man in the road! Haha. I am now an official member of the last-minute-challenge club. Not healthy at all.

  4. You're way too humble Dean!! Yes, the other films were good, but yours was on a completely different level. It has STYLE! You totally deserved that win, and quit pretending you didn't! This film is a breakthrough for you. Now on to the next one... ;)

  5. Strider* Mike, thanks for this message. You've raised my confidence slightly. Though, I'm not pretending anything, I thought the others had smoother animation. But that's where practice comes in, right! I'm already on with the next challenge, sketching down a few character ideas. I like the fact you mention STYLE :)

  10. How have I been missing this blog? Great short!

It was clear what was coming, but I still winced at the end. The narration kind of reminded me of Forrest Gump, which adds humor to an already funny film. I like the character too. It looks like you've found you can do a lot with latex.

  11. Ah, cheers Don. I don't yet have the confidence in my skills to be shouting about it, so you're excused for not being up-to-date ;)

Yeah, I got Tom Hanks in to do the voice-over :D It actually makes me cringe to watch it now. It felt right at the time.

I'm liking the liquid latex at the moment. The more you use a material, the more it becomes your friend. I'll keep on posting my results.
